Amazing!! With the bare minimum of information I had about my elderly Fathers adoption as baby,  Bernadette managed to track down where his birth mother had lived, the Salvation Army hospital my father was born at, his real fathers  birth place in Tasmania, his real fathers WW1 record and medical discharge documents,  the ship he emigrated from Tasmania to England on and even his house in London. Bernadette even managed to link my fathers real parents to his adoptive Mother, including an address that my Father remembered living at as a young child.

The most surprising find was a younger half brother my Father never new existed, due to continued illness and disability my Father has not managed to meet his half brother, but they have exchanged photographs and the odd telephone call, the resemblance between the two half brothers is un-canny, both as children and in old age, they even have some similar medical conditions.

Would I recommend Bernadette  – you bet I would. I cannot guarantee your own find maybe as interesting or as surprising as my own! but who knows until you take the plunge and do what you always wanted to do – “only if I had the time “ you say – The simple solution is to let Bernadette trace your own Pathways to the Past.

After many negative attempts my husband was still very keen to trace his roots. He had many unanswered questions from snippets of information.  Our daughter knew Bernadette and asked for her help. This was to be a Christmas present and what a present it turned out to be.

Bernadette traced his roots back to the 1700’s From Yorkshire to Stanbridge near Dunstable – Oliver Cromwell having left the farming family alone in the quest to feed London.

She discovered a slight change in our name spelling and that annual meetings were held in the village church.

Curious we attended the next one armed with certificates Bernadette had found. The church had 3 rolls of paper stretching from the back to the nave, bearing tiny printed names along their length. We introduced ourselves saying we thought we were part of this family. After tea and numerous homemade cookies, chatting to people from New Zealand, Canada & the locality, there was a whoop from Ewart Tearle who had compiled all this information, he had found our line.  We were part of the family – photos were taken and lasting friendships began.

 We are so grateful to Bernadette for the expertise as we continue to meet and enjoy the family.
